Westray Junior High School has linked with the other 5 secondary schools in Orkney to develop a project to support the development of learning across the whole school. This is our second year of the project and we are presently working on the following areas:

  1. Enhancing skills of staff and pupils by:
    • Providing further training on the latest developments in education.
    • Developing leadership skills in pupils and staff.
    • Increasing the opportunity to use e-learning for pupils and staff.
  2. Transferring pupils learning opportunities by:
    • Developing the curriculum in schools right across Orkney to embrace and implement the concepts inherent in this Curriculum of Excellence initiative.
    • Enhancing the opportunities for Vocational Education to widen pupils experience and develop their practical skills.
  3. Celebrating Success by:
    • Developing new ways to celebrate the school and pupil successes which are meaningful to the pupils and the community.
    • New ways of e-learning pupil achievements.
  4. Developing connections with others by:
    • Developing partnerships with schools across the world.
    • Introducing global citizenship to enable pupils to make them aware of issues across the world.
    • Developing links with local schools which will enable effective communication between staff and pupils across all 6 secondary schools in Orkney.
