32 Westray children took part on this production for the annual St Magnus Festival. They ranged from P5-S2. The Westray group was responsible for the construction during the production of a large replica St Magnus Cathedral. Throughout the rehearsal and performance process, the Westray pupils demonstrated inventiveness, maturity and diligence. Many of the movements stemmed from their own ideas. Members of the audience commented on the self-discipline and motivation of the Westray members of the cast. They made a truly excellent contribution to the Festival and to the celebrations surrounding the 850th anniversary of St Rognvald's death. It was particularly pleasing to be able to involve one of the North Isles schools so deeply in a major production of such high quality. We won! Westray Junior High won the 2008 Young Engineers Club award.

Below is a report from one of the pupils that attended -
Our trip to Nairn:
First of all we got the ferry to the town and stayed in a hotel for the night.
The next day we had to get up early to catch our plane to Inverness. We got to Inverness Airport, and then the SCDI Chair person came to take our bags to the hotel we were staying at.

We got a bus to Inverness town centre to get some shopping done, Steph and Mary really enjoyed that but the boys weren’t too impressed! So they sat playing a game called the coin game where they threw coins into the walkways to see who would pick the coins up and clapped whenever people picked the coins up.
When we were in the town centre we saw a statue man which was quite cool. We also saw a man who juggled fire; we thought that was quite cool too, we also saw some owls and Jake took a picture of the owl man.
After a few hours of shopping we took a bus to Nairn, to get to the guest house we were staying the night at. On the journey there we went past the place we were having our meal at.
We got off at a bus station and had to ask a man where the guest house l was because we weren’t sure, so he gave us directions and off we went on the walk to find the guest house.

After a bit we figured out we were just walking around in circles because we couldn’t find the guest house so we asked another man where he thought the guest house was and right enough he told us exactly where it was, So we went to the guest house and we went in and got showed to our rooms.
Then we all started to get ready for the big night ahead, getting showered and our hair done and our make up and the important bit – getting dressed up!
After we had done all this we all went downstairs and there was our taxi so off we went.
When we got to the place we were going for the meal there was a red carpet out side and it was all very posh. When we got in we got showed to this big room and Mr McEwen and Mrs Groat got Champaign and Mary, Jake, Steph and Drew got coke to drink. We went in the room and sat down and lots and lots of people started to arrive.
Then about half an hour or so later a man came and called us through to the hall where we were having the meal. We sat down and got everything started.
First of all people were getting awards for business things and then we got called up! We were all really happy that we had got an award, it was all such a surprise.
Mr McEwen refused to let us drink alcohol! So we just had coke instead. After a little while the food started coming through!

For our starter we had a Seafood platter, there was caviar, a prawn, some pate thing and some salad. For the next course we had Beef in a red wine source and vegetables. For our afters we had a trio of deserts. A small Pavlova with raspberry source, a lemon paraf and some chocolate coffee bisect with chocolate sauce.
After that we had some entertainment from Jon Culshaw and we thought he was really funny!
Afterwards the boys got kisses from Isla Traquair and Drew was blushing and was really smiley after!
After the whole meal was over Islas mum got Isla and Jon to come over and get our pictures taken with them, and we also got their autographs! We were all on a really big high afterwards!
We then got the taxi back to the hotel room and we had a lie in the next day because we were so worn out!
We then went to the airport and touched down in Kirkwall to do some more shopping. We then got the ferry back home to Westray to tell everyone our exiting news and let people see our plaque and the award we got!
